Ifemelu and Obinze fall in love as schoolmates in Lagos, then scatter as Nigeria settles under military rule: Ifemelu to America, where she confronts race as she never had to at home and writes a sharp blog about it; Obinze to an undocumented life in London, and eventually back to a prosperous but unsettled Lagos. When Ifemelu returns to Nigeria after thirteen years, the two must reckon with the people they have become. The novel won the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction.
