Dear Martin

Stone's debut novel follows Justyce McAllister, a scholarship student at a mostly white Atlanta prep school and bound for the Ivy League, who is thrown to the ground and handcuffed by a police officer while trying to help his drunk ex-girlfriend into her car. Shaken, Justyce begins writing letters to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., testing whether King's teachings can hold in his world — a test that turns unbearable when his best friend Manny is shot and killed by an off-duty officer. A New York Times bestseller, the book has become a standard classroom text on race and policing.
