The collected writings of Steve Biko, the founder of South Africa's Black Consciousness Movement, assembled after his death in police detention in 1977. Through essays and articles — many written under the pen name Frank Talk — Biko argues that Black people must first free their own minds from inferiority before political liberation can follow. It is the primary statement of Black Consciousness in Biko's own words.
