Seale, co-founder and chairman of the Black Panther Party, gives an insider's account of the Party's founding in Oakland in 1966, its Ten-Point Program, its confrontations with police, and the campaign to free Huey P. Newton after his 1967 arrest. Written while the events were still unfolding and the author faced his own prosecutions, it is part history, part organizing manual, and part polemic. It remains a primary source on the Panthers told by one of the two men who started the organization.
