Rogers spent a lifetime gathering biographies of notable people of African descent whom standard histories ignored โ Aesop, Hannibal, Cleopatra, and Askia the Great among them. Volume I covers Asia, Africa, and historical figures before Christ; Volume II covers Europe, South and Central America, the West Indies, and the United States, including Alessandro de' Medici, Alexandre Dumas, and Marcus Garvey. A pioneering work of Black biographical history, later reissued with an introduction and notes by John Henrik Clarke.
