Rashidi surveys the African presence in Europe from antiquity through the early modern age — African soldiers, rulers, saints, and the Black Madonnas among them — drawing on art, artifacts, and historical records gathered over decades of travel. It is a cornerstone of his life's work documenting what he called the Global African Presence.
